Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation

Events

Since Tucker founded FCF in 2009, close to $2 million has been raised for fibrolamellar research.

Upcoming Events

This event is hosted by the men of Alpha Tau Omega at Arkansas Tech to raise money for the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation (FCF). It is going to be three days of events to raise not only awareness of this cancer but to honor former Tech student Jay Alexander, 1991-2011. The entire annihilATΩr will consist of three events:

March 5th: Awareness
Pick your favorite ATΩ and make sure he gets a pie (or three) in the face. Donations will be taken up at the Hindsman belltower, so please stop by and make your donation to pie an ATΩ. You will also be able to find out about Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma (FHC) and about the FCF and their efforts to find a cure.

March 6th: Teamwork
ATΩ will be hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, held in Hull Hall. The teams will consist of five members with a $5 participation fee per team member.

Following the tournament will be an ice cream social for friends and guests in Young Ballroom. Donations will be accepted throughout the social.

March 7th: Omega (The End)
The first event will be a balloon release in the afternoon. Stop by the Hindsman belltower at 1:00 PM to get your balloon.

In the evening, ATΩ will host the "Annihilator Talent Showcase" with a special presentation to be made by Russellville's own Mayor Bill Eaton, and will also announce the total amount raised for FCF. The showcase begins at 7:00 PM, in Doc Bryan Lecture Hall. Tickets purchased before the talent showcase will be $2.00 and then $3.00 if purchased the day of.

New York City Marathon
An FCF team of 7 runners finished the NYC Marathon. The FCF participants ran with Fred's Team from Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK). Fred Lebow was the co-founder of the New York City Marathon in 1970. In 1990 Fred was diagnosed with brain cancer. He was treated at MSK and jogged down hospital hallways during his recovery. He ran the marathon for the last time in 1992, when his cancer was in remission, finishing in 5 hours 32 minutes. Fred died in 1994.

Although part of Fred's Team, all funds raised by FCF runners go directly to the Fibrolamellar Research Fund set up at MSK and used only for fibrolamellar research.  To date $36,199 has been raised by the runners:  Nel Andrews, Yasmin Barrie, Kurt Bolin, Ken Ciccarelli, Ronald English, Jay Niedzielski, Lora Tirri.  Many thanks for helping find a cure for and extending the lives of fibrolamellar patients.

Anyone interested in running in next year's NYC marathon should contact Lynn O'Malley at FCF.
